Patikul is an impoverished community in Sulu with a very high incidence of school dropouts. KLIKme is a much welcome program to help break the vicious cycle of poverty in the area.
Jainab Abdulmajid is our KLIKme Sulu Community Liaison.
Abdelsuhod Abdurahman is our KLIKme Sulu Community Learning Facilitator.
Our KLIKme Sulu Community Learning Center is provided by the DepEd in Indanan Sulu.
Efforts are currently ongoing to sign up out-of-school youth and adults for the KLIKme program.
The GK Patikul community was a welcome development in conflict and poverty-stricken Patikul, Sulu in 2010.
Small and big efforts for Sulu
Led by Jainab Abdulmajid and Amer-Khan A. Raji, KLIKme is in the process of signing up learners for the pioneer batch of the KLIKme program in Sulu.
Our work in Sulu has been ongoing since 2005 when Gawad Kalinga started in the area.
The first GK Hope Ball gathered affluent and diverse members of Philippine society who wished to join in building the dreams of our brothers and sisters in Sulu. Held on October 8, 2010 at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Manila Peninsula, it was an occasion that demonstrated the generosity of the people who opened their hearts to their fellowmen.
In 2010, Turkish American, Beliz Balkir Crook led the team of volunteers in the Philippines that gave rise to the GK Patikul community. The husband of Beliz was then an expat serving as the General Manager Peninsula Manila and rather than be idle and live the high life, Beliz chose to use her network and influence to make a difference in the lives of her Muslim brethren in poverty and conflict-stricken Sulu.
"I've become shameless for GK. Some of my friends have become wary of me because they know I will ask them to give and help in our GK Hope Ball!" Beliz is now based in America and she says that her time in the Philippines will always be most memorable for her because of the Sulu experience.
Building upon the work started by the Hope Ball effort in 2010, GKONOMICS visited Sulu in 2012 and embarked on efforts, that continue to this day, to support and generate partnerships to benefit Sulu and support the work of Gawad Kalinga in the area.

- part of the KLIKme Mobile App development and maintenance
- part of the KLIKme Learning Materials development
- training, support, and oversight of Facts and Learners
THANK YOU KLIKme ANGELS!
Reynaldo "Bong" Macatula and his wife Mia Encarnacion Macatula are longtime supporters of GKONOMICS, having sponsored GKONOMICS scholars at Dualtech Learning Center and MINT College, and also consistently donating tp the annual Kiddie Paskuhan that brings Christmas cheer to disadvantaged children in the Philippines.
In 2022, Bong embraced KLIKme and initiated a ground-breaking funding drive for two KLIKme communities with his generous employer, Capital Group, and fellow Filipino-American co-workers at Capital Group.
Thank you Bong, Mia, Capital Group, and all the Fil-Am Cap Group employees who helped jumpstart our KLIKme pilot communities!
The January 2012 Sulu trip served as the foundation for KLIKme Sulu, a lasting solution to poverty and peace and order challenges that is now coming to fruition after ten years.
